Is it safe? Would a person get ‘high’ from CBD oil?
The first question that arises in a person’s mind after hearing that CBD is extracted from cannabis is – Is it safe from consumption? and can CBD be used as a substitute for Marijuana?
The answer to the first question is – ‘Yes’, CBD has been medically proven to be safe for consumption.
The answer to the second part is ‘No’ , CBD cannot be used as a substitute for marijuana. The main chemical compound responsible for the ‘high’ feeling one gets after smoking weed is – Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is psychoactive in nature. CBD products are on the other hand, isn’t psychoactive at all, so one cannot get high after consuming it.
CBD oil and Alzheimer’s disease
Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia in which a person slowly begins to lose his memory and his cognitive functions. Thus over time, a person isn’t able to handle even simple daily activities such as brushing his teeth.
To be fair Alzheimer’s cannot be cured and CBD isn’t a new ‘magic remedy’ that can cure it instantly. cbd oil and alzheimer’s relationship is pretty simple, Alzheimer’s slowly degrades the brain while CBD oil slows the process by a few years.
The properties of CBD oil such as –
- Anti-inflammatory property – Diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s are neurodegenerative diseases which causes inflammation in the neurons of the brain as a result of which a person suffers from severe and chronic headaches. CBD oil reduces the inflammation, thereby providing relief to the patient.
- Helps in formation of new neurons in the brain – Alzheimer’s disease reduces the production of a new neuron’s in the brain of the affected person but CBD oil acts as a chemical stimulant that promotes the growth of new neurons in the person’s body. Thus the rapid growth of Alzheimer’s is checked.
- Acts as an antioxidant – The mass release of reactive oxygen and oxidative stress on the neurons, as a reaction of which they begin to degrade, is how Alzheimer’s progresses. CDB oil on the other hand releases antioxidants which reduce the oxidation stress on the body.
Cbd oil and Alzheimer’s treatments are still a field in which research is ongoing but one thing is certain that CBD oil does reduce the rate of progression of this disease, scientists are just searching ‘how’ does CBD oil do it.
